As part of our outdoor learning, the Year 1 children had a fantastic time making bird feeders. With excitement and enthusiasm, they carefully crafted their feeders using a mix of seeds, lard, and other bird-friendly treats, learning about the different types of foods that attract various birds. After assembling their creations, the children ventured into the school woods, choosing special spots to hang their feeders where they thought birds might feel safe to visit. They talked about birds’ habitats, where birds like to live, and why certain places would be best to place their feeders.
A few days later, the children eagerly returned to check on their feeders and were astonished to discover that many of the treats had been eaten! There was lots of excitement when the children realised the birds had visited their feeders!
