School Attendance – Every Day Counts!
Good attendance is really important. Coming to school every day helps children learn, make friends and feel happy and settled in school.
Our whole-school attendance from September to 5th November is 97%, which is a good start to the year. Our attendance target for this year is 97.2%, as set out in our latest Department for Education report.
Winter Illness – Is My Child Too Ill for School?
As we move into November and the colder winter months, we know that more children may become unwell.
The NHS advises that children can usually still come to school with a mild cough, cold, runny nose or sore throat, as long as they feel well enough and do not have a high temperature.
Please remember:
- Mild cough or cold: Your child can usually come to school if they feel well.
- High temperature (38°C or above): Keep your child at home until their temperature has returned to normal and they feel well enough.
- Vomiting or diarrhoea: Your child must stay at home for 48 hours after the last episode.
If your child is too unwell to attend school, please contact the school office on the first day of absence.
We have included a helpful NHS guide, ‘Is my child too ill for school?’, to help parents and carers decide when children should stay at home.
Good Routines Make a Difference
Regular bedtimes, a good night’s sleep and getting ready for school on time all help children start the day well.
