Year 5 have enjoyed another fantastic day on their residential visit to Eyam!
The children spent the morning exploring the historic village and discovering more about its fascinating past. They visited the famous Plague Cottages, where some of the families affected by the Great Plague lived in 1665.
They also explored other important historical sites, including the Lydgate Graves, learning about the people who lost their lives during the Plague and the sacrifices made by the villagers to protect others.
After a busy morning of learning, the children enjoyed their lunch and had an amazing time playing together in the village playground. There were plenty of smiles, laughter and lots of energy!
In the afternoon, Year 5 visited the historic St Lawrence’s Church, which dates back hundreds of years. The church is home to the grave of Catherine Mompesson, whose husband, Reverend William Mompesson, helped lead the village through the Plague. The children also had the opportunity to learn more about the church’s history and its importance to the people of Eyam.
It has been another wonderful day of history, adventure and making memories with friends. Well done, Year 5!
