Year 5 Residential – Exploring the History of Eyam

Year 5 have had a fantastic first day on their residential visit to Eyam!

The children started their adventure with a visit to Magpie Mine, a historic lead mine in the Peak District. They enjoyed exploring the site, learning about its mining history and discovering what life was like for miners many years ago.

After a fun morning, Year 5 arrived at the Youth Hostel in Eyam, famously known as the Plague Village.

The children were keen to get out and explore. They learnt about Eyam’s remarkable history and how the villagers made the brave decision to isolate themselves during the Great Plague of 1665–1666 to help stop the disease spreading to nearby communities.

The children then visited Eyam Museum, where fascinating artefacts, displays and stories helped bring the village’s history to life.

After a busy day of exploring and learning, everyone headed back to the Youth Hostel for some well-earned tea and an evening of fun activities.

What a brilliant first day! We can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings!
