On Wednesday, Year 1 visited the National Emergency Services Museum. This term, we’ve been learning all about the Great Fire of London and how the Fire Service has evolved over time. We’ve also explored the role of today’s emergency services. The children had an amazing time exploring the museum, where we got to see various fire engines, including the early models that were horse-drawn carts.
The children had the chance to discover what emergency services look like today, role-play helping in an emergency, ride on a Police Bike, listen to real-life calls, and try on jackets and safety hats from all the emergency services.
In the afternoon, we participated in a workshop with Rosie. We learned about the uniforms firefighters wore in the 1700s and compared them to the uniform used today. We also role-played putting out the Great Fire of London by passing buckets. Our visit ended with a trip to the Police Cells and a chance to look inside emergency vehicles. The children were fascinated by the huge RNLI boat, fire engines, police vans, and ambulances.
It was an action-packed day for Year 1, and the children impressed all the adults with their enthusiasm and what they’ve learned. We are so proud of their curiosity and eagerness. Well done, Year 1!
