Year 5 certainly like to prove that reading is for pleasure and they did this brilliantly with a morning of reading fun.
Initially, some children made book recommendations to each other before diving into their book of choice to read. After dedicated reading time, the children had a book chat and discussed characters and events in the book they were currently reading. They compared their experiences and feelings towards the same books they had read. Later on, the children completed their ‘reading journey’; a lovely zig-zag reminder of what they have chosen to read for pleasure in Year 5 so far. We ended the morning by reading Michael Morpurgo’s Running Wild, our class novel, together. We’re already on chapter 3 and have only been reading it for three days!
