Today Y3 were learning about the magnetic poles and why magnets attract and repel. They then used this knowledge to make their own compasses. They had to ‘magnetise’ their needle by rubbing it down one side/pole of the magnet. They then balanced the needle in the water or on a disc and watched the needle turn to north.
There was lots of resilience needed today for each part of the investigation and to problem solve to make it turn north. Some children managed to have time to extend their learning and repeated the experiment to check their results.
Well done to the Y3 scientists!
