Understanding Separation Anxiety

Today, we hosted a workshop on ‘Separation Anxiety’ for parents of Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 children. The session was led by Dr Mark Uzzell, Senior Clinical Psychologist, and supported by Anisah Akbar, our Educational Mental Health Practitioner, and Mrs Fernandes.

We discussed how to recognise signs of anxiety in children, understanding that some anxiety is a normal part of life, and identifying when it becomes a concern if it interferes with their daily activities. Top tips and practical advice were shared.

We hope the workshop helped everyone better understand separation anxiety and empowered parents with useful strategies to try.

Afterwards, we enjoyed an Eritrean coffee morning with delicious coffee and treats while parents shared their experiences with separation anxiety. Huge thanks to the mothers who organised this—it provided a lovely community atmosphere.
