Eyam Walk

On the final day of the Year 5 trip to Eyam, the children enjoyed a fantastic experience, joined by staff and family members for a scenic walk from Eyam to Stoney Middleton and back. With the sun shining brightly, it was an ideal day to delve deeper into the rich history of the village.

The group visited the Riley Graves, where they learned about the tragic story of Mrs Hancock, who buried six of her family members during the 1666 Plague. This poignant moment helped bring history alive for the children.

Following this, they tackled a steep climb from Stoney Middleton to the famous boundary stone. It was here that Eyam villagers, during the Plague, would exchange money for food without making contact.

From the boundary stone, they continued through the village and undertook another steep climb through beautiful woodland, taking in breath-taking views along the way. Eventually, they returned to the Youth Hostel, tired but with a sense of accomplishment.

A big thank you to all the families who joined us today and made this memorable day even more special. Well done, Year 5!
