Judaism Week EYFS/KS1

Judaism Week

October 9th – 13th was Judaism Week in school. All children in the school have travelled around the different teachers in their Key Stage to learn more about Judaism. Reception and KS1 learned about Hannukah, Moses and Shabbat.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 learned about Moses and why he is such an important person to the Jewish people. We learned more about how Moses lead the Israelites out of Egypt. We did this through drama and singing. We learned a song ‘Pharoah, let my people go’ to help us remember what Moses asked the Pharaoh. We then acted out what it was like for the Egyptians to chase the Israelites and how the Red Sea parted to let the Israelites through to the other side.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 spent some time learning about the Jewish day of rest Shabat. The children found out about how families prepare for this important day each week and explored the special objects that would be found on a Shabat table including; a kiddush cup, challah bread and Shabat candles. We learned that during the last meal of Shabat a special Havdalah candle is lit. Using birthday candles, the children had lots of fun making their own!

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 learned about Hannukah and the importance of the Menorah. The children had a go at making their own Menorah to remember the story of Hannukah.Â
