Y3 visited Manor Lodge for a Stone Age day. The children completed lots of activities such as creating a human timeline to show that the Stone Age really was a long long time ago. The children made their own spears and took them outside to hunt with. We thought about which animals would be the best to hunt and had to decide which tracks belonged to which animals. We hunted down a deer and had a go at using a bow and arrow to catch it (as our spears were too small to catch a deer from afar). The children then had a go at making their own tents and finding sticks and animal skins to create our own tents. We went on a Stone Age information hunt where we had to decide between 2 choices which we would rather do. In the afternoon we had a go at painting by candle light like Stone Age people would have done in their caves. It was so dark with all the shutters down and no lights. We had to hold our tea lights (battery) to be able to see which could paint we wanted and to paint our pictures. Lastly, we looked at Stone Henge and thought about how the Stone Age people would have moved the large stones. In teams we had a go at rolling the ‘stones’ to the finish line in our very own Stone Age race! The rain didn’t stop the Y3’s from being super speedy! Well done to all of Y3 for being wonderful ambassadors for our school, for showing how much you have learned during our topic and for getting involved in everything!
