Crucial Life Skills in Year 6

On Tuesday, Year 6 travelled to Crucial Crew, near Rotherham. Here, they learned about how to stay safe as they become older and start secondary school, learning many new life skills and also the consequences of anti-social behaviour. Maya and Eliza have given their views on the different scenarios we experienced.

Using public transport
We enjoyed the bus. We liked the fact that the bus was real. The instructor was easy to understand and we liked the role-play aspect.
Court room
We loved the court room! The script was fun but informative. Honestly, it was awesome! Amazing instructor too.
Road safety
We learnt about crossing roads, different crossings and the age of children most likely to be involved in a road traffic accident. (BTW it’s 11)
County lines
We learnt about gangs who try to entice children to become involved in criminal activity like drug dealing, and what to do if we suspect our friends have been groomed into joining.
Fire safety
We learnt about fires, the fire brigade and the consequences of hoax calls. We learnt how many fire engines are in our area and about black smoke. A firefighter showed us how to check our smoke detectors and what to do in an emergency.
Final thoughts
The Crucial Crew experience was very well thought out. The instructors were good and we learnt a lot from the lessons. This was fun and engaging but also a good way to learn. We enjoyed it very much.
