Year 3 challenge was to design footwear that allows the safe crossing of the sinking mud swamp!
The class organised themselves into teams of four. Each person in the team had certain qualities and strengths to bring to the group and this led to fantastic cooperation and collaboration throughout the project.
The team used their knowledge of materials to design footwear that they thought would cope with mud and water. They made a list of ideas and resources and then made the actual prototype.
An area was then prepared outside so that the footwear could be tested using a fair test. The children decided that the best shoe design would be one that didn’t fall apart and remained sturdy and didn’t allow water inside the shoe and protected the leg from lots of mud.
