Year 1 had a fantastic morning in the sunshine on Tuesday, enjoying an exciting workshop delivered by Alfresco Learning, all about the Great Fire of London. The children were fully immersed in history as they explored how buildings were constructed in 1666, even having a go at making their own wattle and daub walls using sticks, mud and straw (no horse poo like they had in 1666 though!). They were then challenged to make Thomas Farriner a new waterproof bakery using a choice of 2 materials from stones, clay, foil, sticks and paper. The children joined in beautifully and enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, Year 2 had a fabulous afternoon during their castles workshop. They were buzzing with creativity, using bamboo sticks and elastic bands to create different 2D and 3D shapes which were so important to the structure of castles. Finally, the children made their own unique flags using only fabric, flowers and pebbles. The children had a great time learning new skills and working together, thank you Alfresco Learning!
