On Tuesday, Year 4 had an incredible opportunity to deepen their understanding of the epic tale ‘Beowulf’ thanks to a special visit from Mr O’ Connor.
Mr O’ Connor talked all about how stories were told in Anglo- Saxon times and compared our movies today to the story of Beowulf. The children listened to the part of Beowulf where Grendel attacks (read in Old English by Mr O’ Connor) and looked at the different letters such as Þ = th, ð = th (again!) and æ = a long ’a’ sound.
The children also created their own monsters and used descriptive language to share their monsters with the class. We all had lots of fun!
A huge thank you to Mr O’ Connor for making the story of Beowulf come alive for Year 4!
