Year 5 Exploring Eyam & Mompesson’s Well

After a fun morning at Magpie Mine, Year 5 arrived at the Youth Hostel in Eyam, the famous Plague Village. Bags were dropped off quickly, and the group set off up the hill to visit Mompesson’s Well.

Long ago, villagers used the well to swap coins for food without touching others – helping stop the Plague from spreading.

At the top, the children listened to The Kiss of Death by Malcolm Rose, read by Mrs Woodcock and Mrs Fenton. The story made history feel real – and they even spotted something interesting in the stream nearby!

After all the excitement, it was back to the hostel for tea with friends and a first look at their rooms!
