Today, Year 4 were visited by Erik the Viking, who came to St Marie’s to teach us all about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.
The children discovered why the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings came to Britain and learnt how Viking law and order worked. Some of the class even stood trial for Viking crimes! We also explored runes and had a go at writing our own names in this ancient alphabet.
Everyone was very excited to see and hold real Viking weapons and artefacts. The highlight for many was practising defence skills with a shield, as we faced a shower of (soft!) javelins.
The children had a brilliant day, filled with fun and learning. A big thank you to Richard from History into Schools for bringing history to life in such an exciting way.
