This week we have been looking at common homophones (words that sound the same but have different spellings). Your child has been given a sheet to complete with the words to, too and two. Other homophones we have looked at this week are there, their and they’re. When you read with your child, please encourage them to spot homophones so they see them used in the correct context.
This week the children were given access to Times Tables Rockstars. This is a programme where the children develop their times tables skills at speed. Your child has tried it out in school and it is proving to be very popular. There are many features to the game, and the children will be shown more features next week when they have mastered the basics of the site. I have stuck the user name and password in the back of the red reading diary. If your child hasn’t returned their diary to school this week, please return it as soon as possible.
The children are completing a unit about time with Mrs Armstrong. Please encourage your child to read the time with various clocks including the 24 hour clock. Young children often have no comprehension about how long activities take. Noting the time before and after bath time, how long food takes to cook etc will make your child more aware of how long things take.
Please continue to read regularly with your child at home. Reading with your child allows you the opportunity to ask questions about what they are reading to ensure they understand the text.
