Wednesday morning for Y1-Y3 Microsoft Teams meeting For Rec, Y1 and Y2 parents Mark (Senior Clinical Psychologist) and Anisah (Education Mental Health Practitioner) who work for the Sheffield Mental Health Support Team will be in school on the 23rd Feb 2024 at 8:50-9:50 to meet parents and discuss children’s sleep. They will focus on the benefits of good sleep, the impact of poor sleep, what can prevent children sleeping well and strategies for encouraging better sleep for your children. On the afternoon of the first Friday back, Fri 23rd Feb, some Y5s and Mr Littlejohn will be organising a football tournament. It will be for most of the afternoon. This is a fundraiser for Biz Kids and will only be for KS2 children who choose to participate. It’s a £2 entry. Just want to give you a ‘heads up’ as this may affect the number of children you have (left) in class and therefore your planning. No idea of what the numbers will be yet. If anyone would like to be with Reece and the football children (I’m guessing not but you may love football tournaments and surprise me!), I am happy to arrange an activity for the remainder of your children and keep them with me. It will probably be a science activity , dissecting a flower, in the Y5 classroom. It will depend on numbers though eg if all Y5s want to pay and be in the tournament I won’t be able to do this activity! Collect the stamps for your St Marie’s Pilgrims’ Passport

Dressing up themes will be related to our class reading books and topics the children are learning in school. We have outlined ideas to help you with this: Children in Reception, Year 1 are asked to dress up as a hero. This is linked to their World Book Day book ‘Marv’. This does not need to be a superhero and can be any character that is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or qualities. Year 2 and our key stage 2 children will also dress up related to their current class reading book. They will brainstorm dressing up ideas with their class team and share those suggestions with you. The class books/themes are: Year 2 – There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight by Penny Parker Klostermann, Ben Mantle Year 3 – The Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura Year 4 – James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl Year 5 – Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo Year 6 – Holes by Louis Sachar Please do not feel that you should go out and buy a costume – the whole idea is for children to think about character costumes they could create using their imagination and items they already have at home. It gives the children the opportunity to think of their focus book and use what they have with imagination to create an outfit linked to their book – it is NOT necessary or in any way expected (or encouraged) for this event to cost our families money through costume buying. On World Book Day, Thursday 7th March, we are asking members of our families to come into school to read with a group of children, including your own of course. You are welcome to bring your favourite children’s book, or we will have a selection of books for you to choose from. These Read Out Loud sessions will be at drop off from 9:00am to 9:30am or at the end of the day 2:45pm to 3:15pm. Your child will also be given a book token worth £1, for specific World Book Day books or used to receive £1 off other books. With this in mind, we are collaborating with local independent bookstore, Rhyme and Reason, to open our own Pop-Up Book Shop in school on Friday 8th March so that all children can use their World Book Day token to select their own book to take home. Classes will have a slot to visit throughout the day and parents will have the opportunity to visit the Pop-Up Book Shop at the end of the day with their children. During the week we plan to have some author visits too, but we are still waiting for confirmation. World Book Day is a great opportunity to celebrate all things reading. At St Marie’s we love sharing books all year round, but we also enjoy coming together on special days to share this collectively. Please contact your class team if you need any further information. Let’s keep St Marie’s reading!
