Special Olympians Visit St Marie's

Featured Special Olympians Visit St Marie's

This summer, Sheffield will be the hosts of the Special Olympics 2017. These Games are for athletes with an intellectual (learning) disability. Last Monday, during assembly, we welcomed two athletes from the Special Olympics squad, Niall Guite and Alexander Thompson, to share their experiences with us. They are Sheffield athletes, and they won Gold medals in the basketball at the Special Olympics World Summer Games, Los Angeles in 2015. Their message to us all was to work hard and to keep going, even if we are faced with great challenges.

We are very fortunate that Sheffield has been chosen to host this international sporting event, and we hope that you will be able to attend some of the events with your children to cheer our athletes on. There will be an opening ceremony at Bramall Lane on 7th August, followed by four days of sporting events at different venues in Sheffield. The 23 events will include athletics, badminton, basketball, football and power lifting. All the sporting events are free of charge for spectators.
